Why a drink is the hardest way to take CBD
Cannabinoids dissolve in fat and a drink is mostly water, so a manufacturer has to emulsify the CBD first or much of it never reaches you.
Cannabinoids dissolve in fat, not in water. That is why oil is suspended in MCT, why capsules are filled with oil, and why chocolate is a naturally good carrier. It is also why a can of flavoured water is the most demanding format in the category.
To get CBD to stay dispersed in a drink, a manufacturer has to emulsify it first, breaking the oil into droplets small enough to stay suspended rather than floating to the top or clinging to the inside of the container. Done properly it works. Done badly, a measurable share of what was added never reaches the person drinking it.
Not one page currently ranking for this search mentions any of this. They cover flavour, convenience and portability, all of which are true, and skip the one variable that decides whether the product does anything at all.
We are not in a position to audit anyone's emulsification, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can do is tell you which lines state a strength, which do not, and what that means for what you are buying, which is the section below.
Which lines state a strength
Every line that prints a milligram figure is a tea, a coffee or a hot chocolate, and the word CBD in the product name is the tell.
This aisle splits cleanly, and not along the lines you would expect. The hemp teas, which are a category of their own, print nothing, and nor did the cannabis-flavoured cans we used to list.

Tea, and the thing milk does that water cannot
Hot water pulls out the water-soluble parts of a tea bag, and cannabinoids are not among them. Milk, or any fat, gives them something to dissolve into.
Tea is the largest sub-shelf here, and it is where the fat-solubility problem becomes something you can actually do something about.
Steep a tea bag in hot water and you extract the water-soluble parts of what is in it. Cannabinoids are not among them. That is not a flaw in the product, it is chemistry, and it is why hemp tea has been drunk with milk for as long as people have been drinking it.
Adding milk, or any fat, gives the cannabinoid something to dissolve into during the steep. Whole milk more than skimmed, and a splash of oat or coconut works on the same principle. If you take your tea black, you are getting the flavour and considerably less of everything else.

One practical note on temperature. Boiling water is fine for a black tea and harsh on a green or a camomile, in exactly the way it is for any other tea. Cannabinoids degrade slowly with sustained heat rather than instantly, so a normal steep is not the problem. Leaving a pot on a hot plate for an hour is a different matter.
Coffee, hot chocolate and why sachets suit this format
A sachet is a fixed portion, and a cappuccino or hot chocolate sachet brings its own milk fat to the cup, which is the one place in this aisle the chemistry is on your side.
The instant sachet lines solve two problems at once.
The first is portioning. A sachet is a fixed unit in a way that a spoon out of a jar is not, which matters more here than it would for ordinary coffee because you are portioning two things at the same time.
The second is the fat. An instant cappuccino sachet already contains milk powder, and hot chocolate is mostly milk solids and cocoa. Both bring their own fat to the cup, which is the same advantage the edibles aisle has over the drinks aisle, arriving here by accident rather than design. Of everything on this page, the cappuccino and hot chocolate sachets are the formats where the chemistry is least against you.

The sparkling CBD cans that dominate this search come from brands neither of our distributors carries, and the cannabis-flavoured cans we used to list are off the shelf.
The dosed sparkling drinks, the ones with a stated milligram figure on the front, are made by brands that neither of our two distributors stocks. We cannot list a comparable product, so we do not, and we are not going to let a cannabis-flavoured can stand in for one on a page titled CBD drinks.
The cannabis-flavoured soft and energy drinks we carried before printed no CBD figure at all. They were real products people bought deliberately, and if they return to stock they will appear in the live table below with the same honesty attached: flavoured, not dosed.

The law, and the number worth memorising
Drinks are food, so the 1mg container rule and Novel Foods both apply in full, and the FSA's 10mg a day advisory figure is worth holding in your head on a shelf where a tea bag carries about 7.5mg.

Novel Foods applies without qualification, because these are things you drink. The Food Standards Agency runs a public list of CBD food products with a validated authorisation dossier behind them, and drinks sit inside it in exactly the way our vapes and our hemp and hash aisles do not.
On daily amounts, the clearest published statement of the FSA position we have found anywhere comes from a retailer ranking for this very search, and it is worth repeating because it is correct: the acceptable daily intake is 0.15mg per kilogram of body weight, which works out at about 10mg a day for a 70kg adult. That replaced the earlier 70mg figure in October 2023. It is guidance rather than an instruction, and on a shelf where a tea bag holds around 7.5mg it is a genuinely useful number to hold in your head.
The usual applies. Over-18s, not medicines, no claims about what any of this does for a health condition. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or on prescription medication, speak to a GP or pharmacist first.
When another aisle is the better answer
Drinks are the most pleasant way to take CBD and the least reliable. Being straight about that is more useful than another paragraph about refreshment.
If the appeal is a warm drink at the end of the day, the cappuccino and hot chocolate sachets are the two products on this page where the format is genuinely working with the chemistry rather than against it.

Yes, and it is the most useful thing on this page. Steeping in water alone extracts the water-soluble parts of a tea bag, and cannabinoids are not among them. Milk, or any fat, gives them something to dissolve into during the steep. Whole milk does more than skimmed, and oat or coconut work on the same principle.
Do the cannabis-flavoured cans contain CBD?
No. None of the cannabis-flavoured soft or energy drinks we have listed printed a CBD figure, so they are flavoured drinks rather than dosed ones. They are perfectly good products bought on that basis, and they are not a substitute for a can with a milligram figure on the front. Is a CBD drink absorbed faster than a gummy?
Slightly, since there is nothing to digest first, but both go through the stomach and the liver so the difference is smaller than it sounds. What matters more in a drink is how much of the cannabinoid was successfully emulsified in the first place. A well-made drink can start faster than a gummy; a badly made one delivers less regardless of speed.
What is the FSA daily limit for CBD?
The Food Standards Agency sets an acceptable daily intake of 0.15mg per kilogram of body weight, which is about 10mg a day for a 70kg adult. That figure replaced an earlier 70mg one in February 2023 and several UK CBD sites still quote the old number. It is guidance for healthy adults rather than a dosing instruction.
Can CBD tea be made with boiling water?
Yes for a black tea, and boiling water is as harsh on a green or camomile CBD tea as on any other. Cannabinoids degrade gradually with sustained heat rather than instantly, so a normal steep is not a problem. Leaving a pot standing on a hot plate for an hour is a different matter and worth avoiding.

Is hemp tea the same as CBD tea?
No, and both are legitimate. Hemp tea is made from the plant and sold for what it is, which is what the Astra Hemp and Professor Herb lines are. A CBD tea carries an added, stated quantity of cannabidiol, which is what the Multitrance, MediCBD and Hempthy lines do. The word CBD in the product name is the reliable signal.
