Start with the drop, not the bottle

The number on a CBD oil bottle is the total for the whole bottle. On its own it tells you almost nothing, because it says nothing about how much liquid that total is dissolved in.

The conversion is straightforward. A drop from a standard pipette is roughly 0.05ml, which puts about 20 drops in a millilitre. A 10ml bottle is therefore around 200 drops, a 30ml bottle around 600, and a 100ml bottle around 2,000. Divide the total on the label by those figures and you have the number to compare across brands.

Do that across our range and the shelf rearranges itself. A 2,000mg 10ml bottle from Orange County works out at roughly 10mg in a drop. Its 12,000mg 100ml bottle, six times the headline figure, works out at roughly 6mg. The bottle with the larger number on the front is the milder one in the hand, and nothing on either label tells you so.

Two cautions before you use the table. Drop size varies with the viscosity of the oil, so a thick full-spectrum extract gives slightly fewer, fatter drops than a thin isolate. And a full pipette is not one drop, which is the most common mistake made with a new bottle. Read these as close approximations for comparing bottles, not as a measured dose.

Why the bigger bottle is often the weaker one

Look down the table and one pattern repeats. Orange County sells 500mg in a 10ml bottle and 500mg in a 30ml bottle. Same total, three times the liquid, so a drop of the second is a third of the strength of a drop of the first. Same for 1,000mg, which appears in both sizes.

That is not a trick. A larger bottle at the same total is simply a longer-lasting supply of a gentler oil, and for someone taking a small amount daily it is often the more sensible purchase. It only becomes a problem when you compare two bottles on the front label alone and assume the bigger number means the stronger oil.

The same logic explains the 100ml bottles. A 25,000mg 100ml is a serious oil at roughly 12.5mg in a drop, but it still sits below the 10,000mg 30ml on that measure, because the 30ml has less liquid to dilute it. Buy the 100ml because you want a long-running supply of a mid-strength oil, not because the number is the largest on the shelf.

Percentage labels are the other thing to decode. Some brands, including the Euphoria oils on this page, label in percent rather than milligrams. The industry convention is about 100mg per millilitre for every 10 percent, so a 10 percent 10ml bottle holds roughly 1,000mg and works out near 5mg in a drop. Once converted it slots straight into the table above.

Drops, oral sprays or paste

This aisle splits three ways, and the split matters more than most buyers expect.

Oil drops are the largest group and the reason people choose this format. A pipette gives you fine control, you can step up or down by a single drop, and held under the tongue for around a minute the oil is absorbed through the membrane rather than the gut. The trade is that it is fiddly, it tastes of hemp unless flavoured, and it is not something to do discreetly on a train.

Oral sprays fix the practical problems and give up a little precision. A pump delivers a fixed amount without a mirror or a steady hand, and it goes in a bag. Vitality is the only brand here doing sprays properly, in natural, lemon and berry, and its dual applicators put drops and a spray in one purchase so you can use the dropper at home and the spray out of the house.

Paste is the outlier. Eco-CBD's hemp oil paste extract is a thick full-spectrum extract from a syringe rather than a pipette, which suits people who already know their amount and want it concentrated. It is not a starting point, and if you have never taken CBD, start with drops.

One thing all three share: hold it in the mouth before swallowing. Swallow oil immediately and it takes the same slow digestive route as a gummy, which throws away the main advantage the format has.

The six ranges on this shelf

A brand-owned site can tell you why its own oil is the best oil. It cannot tell you which of six brands fits how you actually take it. We stock all six, so here they are next to each other.

Full spectrum, broad spectrum, isolate, and the 1mg question

All three extract types are on this shelf, and unlike the gummies aisle the split here genuinely changes what you are buying.

Isolate is CBD alone. Vitality's whole range is isolate, along with two Orange County 10ml bottles. It tastes of very little, so flavouring works cleanly, and it contains nothing else from the plant. Broad spectrum keeps the wider hemp compounds and has the THC taken out afterwards; Orange County's 500mg bottles are the broad-spectrum option here. Full spectrum keeps the plant profile as it is, including the trace THC, and it accounts for half of this aisle: the Orange County bottles from 1,000mg in 30ml upwards, both EndoFlo and Euphoria full-spectrum lines, the Professor Herb tincture and the Eco-CBD paste.

Which brings us to the number that governs all of it. A CBD product can be sold legally in the UK when it holds no more than 1mg of controlled cannabinoids in the whole container. Per container. Not per drop, not per serving, and not a percentage of anything.

That distinction does most of its work in this aisle, because oil is where the containers get large. A percentage-based test, of the sort quoted on a great many CBD pages and repeated in Google's own summary for this search, would allow a 100ml bottle hundreds of times more THC than the law actually permits. The percentage figure is real, but it belongs to hemp cultivation licensing and describes the standing crop a farmer may grow. It has never been the test for what a shop may sell you.

Isolate and broad spectrum clear that bar comfortably, because the THC has been removed during manufacture. Full spectrum is the grade that deliberately retains it, and a 100ml bottle is the hardest case there is. The second half of the legal picture is Novel Foods. Anything you swallow, oil included, sits inside the Food Standards Agency regime, and validated products appear on the FSA public list. The FSA also advises healthy adults to keep CBD from food supplements to 10mg a day, revised down from 70mg in February 2023. That is guidance rather than an instruction, but at 5mg in a drop it is worth knowing before you fill a pipette.

Not every bottle on this page is CBD

Two of the Euphoria lines here, the 10 percent and 20 percent H4CBD oils, are not CBD oil. H4CBD is hydrogenated CBD, made by adding hydrogen to CBD in a laboratory to produce a related but different molecule, so it is semi-synthetic and it is not the same thing you came here for.

It holds no Novel Foods authorisation, which every ingestible CBD product is required to work towards, and it is sold because people report it as considerably stronger. We list these lines because our buyer chose to, having been shown that argument in full, and we flag them rather than shelving them quietly among the CBD bottles.

The practical rule is the same as elsewhere on the site. Anything with H4 in the name is H4CBD. Everything else in this aisle is CBD. The rest of the H4CBD range sits in the hemp and hash aisle, where the copy sets the position out at length.

Taking it, and what to expect from the first bottle

Put the drops under the tongue, hold for about a minute, then swallow. Most guidance in the UK lands between 60 and 90 seconds, and the point of the wait is that absorption through the mouth is faster than absorption through the stomach. Anything you swallow straight away behaves like an edible instead.

Start low and step slowly. A common approach is to begin at around 5mg, hold it there for several days, then move up in small increments rather than jumping strength. That is why the drop conversion above matters: at 5mg in a drop, one drop is a starting amount, and at 16.7mg in a drop it is not.

Flavour is worth taking seriously with oil in a way it is not with gummies. Unflavoured full-spectrum extract tastes strongly of hemp, and people who dislike it tend to stop taking it. If that sounds like you, the flavoured Orange County bottles, EndoFlo's lemon, peppermint and strawberry tinctures, or Vitality's lemon and berry are all sensible first purchases. Vitality's natural is the plain option if you would rather have no flavouring at all.

Carrier oil is the last variable. Most drops on this shelf are suspended in MCT, coconut-derived and neutral, which is what the Professor Herb tincture names explicitly. It is worth checking the ingredients panel if you have a coconut allergy, since MCT is close to universal in this category.

When oil is the wrong choice

Oil is the format we would recommend to most people most of the time. It is still wrong for plenty of them, and saying so is more useful than another paragraph about wellness journeys.

If you will not do the routine, buy something else. A dropper held under the tongue for a minute, twice a day, is a habit, and a bottle that lives in a cupboard because the ritual is tedious does nothing at all. If you cannot tolerate the taste of hemp, do not buy unflavoured full spectrum as a first bottle on the theory that you will get used to it. Most people do not.

If your workplace tests for drugs, the conservative choice in this aisle is an isolate line, and half the shelf is full spectrum. Nobody can promise you a test result.
