Total milligrams and concentration are two different things

The figure printed largest on a CBD oil is the total in the bottle. It tells you how much cannabidiol you bought. It does not tell you how strong a drop is, and a drop is what you actually take.

For that you need the concentration, which is the total divided by the volume. This bottle holds 1,000mg in 10ml, so it is a 10 per cent oil. The brand publishes the consequences of that directly: 100mg in a full pipette, 5mg in a single drop.

Now hold that against the 30ml bottle carrying the same 1,000mg. Identical total, three times the volume, so roughly 3.3 per cent and roughly a third as much in each drop. Someone moving between the two while counting drops rather than milligrams would change their intake by a factor of three without noticing.

This is the single most common source of confusion in CBD oil, and not one page in the ranking set for this product addresses it. If you take away one thing, take away this: compare oils on concentration, then check the total to see how long the bottle lasts.

The two 1,000mg bottles, side by side

This deserves its own comparison, because the labels are so nearly identical that the difference is easy to miss on a shelf or a search results page.

Both bottles carry 1,000mg of cannabidiol. One is 10ml and one is 30ml. The 10ml is the concentrated one, and it is aimed at people who already know what dose suits them and want it in as little liquid as possible. The 30ml is the diluted one, and it gives finer control at the low end because each drop moves the total by less.

There is a second difference, and it is the one we cannot fully resolve. Our own records list this 10ml bottle and the 30ml bottle under different extract grades. That pattern has shown up repeatedly across this range while we have been writing it up, with bottle size predicting the grade more reliably than the milligram figure does.

We would rather flag that than paper over it. See the next section for what we will and will not state about it.

What we will and will not say about the extract and the THC

The brand lists the ingredients of this bottle as full spectrum hemp-derived cannabidiol, MCT oil and terpenes, and its own specification names the spectrum as full. Every UK shop in the ranking set titles it full spectrum too.

Our own product record disagrees and lists it as an isolate. Those cannot both be right, and since full spectrum is the grade that retains THC by design, we handle it as the more demanding of the two.

That means we publish no THC figure for this product and make no claim about whether it sits inside the UK limit, which is 1mg of controlled cannabinoids in total per container, counted as an absolute quantity rather than a percentage. We do not hold the per-batch certificate for the stock we would ship. The brand does publish lab reports on its own site, which is more than most of the shops reselling it manage.

One claim circulating on this product does need correcting. A percentage figure appears across the trade, presented on at least one UK listing as the legal test itself. It is not the test, and on a bottle this size the arithmetic is stark: applied to 10ml, that percentage would allow roughly twenty times the quantity the law actually permits per container. A percentage scales with the bottle. The limit does not.

What MCT oil is doing in there

Cannabidiol is a solid at room temperature and does not dissolve in water, so it has to be carried in a fat. MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides, and in practice it usually means a fraction of coconut oil.

It is used for three reasons. It stays liquid and pours cleanly at room temperature, so a pipette behaves predictably. It has very little flavour of its own, so the hemp and the terpenes come through rather than the carrier. And its molecules are shorter than most dietary fats, which is why it is the default choice across the category.

Terpenes are the third ingredient. They are the aromatic compounds that give hemp its smell, and in a full spectrum oil some arrive with the extract while others may be added back. They are the reason this tastes and smells of something rather than being neutral.

There is no flavouring in this bottle. Our record lists the flavour as natural, and natural here means the taste of hemp extract in oil, which is earthy and slightly bitter with a grassy edge. People who dislike it usually chase it with a drink or move to a flavoured format.

Using it, and what a pipette actually gives you

The method is the same for every sublingual oil. Draw the pipette, place the drops under your tongue, hold them there for something like half a minute to a minute so the tissue can absorb them, then swallow what remains.

The brand's published figures make the arithmetic on this bottle unusually easy. A drop is 5mg. A full pipette is 100mg. So a pipette is twenty drops, and you can count out any amount in fives without doing sums.

That granularity is coarse compared to a weaker oil. On a 5 per cent oil a drop moves your intake by half as much, and on the 3.3 per cent version by about a third as much. If you are still working out what suits you, coarse steps are a drawback rather than a feature.

The brand also suggests stirring it into food or a drink. That works, though anything swallowed rather than held under the tongue takes a different route through the body, so the two methods are not interchangeable in timing.

The Food Standards Agency advises healthy adults not to exceed 10mg of CBD a day from food supplements, a figure it revised down from its earlier advice in 2023. Two drops of this oil reach it. That is the benchmark to keep in view when a 10 per cent oil makes large amounts so easy to pour.

Stock, and one thing worth knowing

That is worth saying because the brand's own shop currently lists this bottle as back-ordered with a lead time of a week and a half or more. Distributor stock and brand stock are separate pools, and the brand running short does not mean the product is unavailable elsewhere. It does mean that if the shortage persists, availability across the trade may tighten later.

Nobody in the ranking set mentions stock at all, in either direction.

Who should not buy this

Anyone new to CBD oil should probably start elsewhere. At 5mg a drop this bottle moves in large steps, and the 500mg and 1,500mg bottles give you finer control while you work out what suits you.

Anyone who wants certainty about THC will not get it here. The brand says full spectrum, our own record says otherwise, and we hold no certificate for the batch we would ship. If a nil-THC position matters to you, a broad spectrum or isolate product with a certificate you can read is the safer choice.

Anyone who dislikes the taste of hemp should know there is no flavouring in this. It is extract and MCT oil and nothing else.

And anyone comparing this against the 30ml bottle on the strength of the number on the front should reread the tables above. Same total, very different oil.
