Four drops is the FSA figure

The FSA advises that healthy adults keep their CBD intake from food supplements to no more than 10mg a day. It is precautionary consumer advice rather than a legal limit, and it was revised down from an earlier figure of 70mg, announced in October 2023.

As a number on its own it is close to useless when you are holding a pipette. Converted, it is four drops of this oil. That is the whole calculation, and it is the single most practical thing a page about a dropper oil can tell you.

The conversion changes with the strength of the bottle, which is where an oil range gets confusing. The same four drops from a 6000mg bottle would be four times as much. The table below does the arithmetic across the Orange County oils we stock so you can see where each one sits.

We are not telling you what to take. The advisory figure is advice, you may have your own view of it, and this page is not the place for ours. What we are doing is putting the number in units you can actually measure, which is a different thing from recommending anything.

We went to read the lab report for this bottle

Orange County publishes a lab report page for this exact product, not a generic one for the brand. That is more than most CBD companies manage and it deserves credit.

So we went and read it. The page is there, and it carries a tab labelled for the full spectrum 1500mg oil. What we could not retrieve from it was any of the content that matters: no THC figure, no CBD figure, no batch reference, no laboratory name and no date.

That leaves our position where it was, but better evidenced. This is a full spectrum oil, which means it retains THC deliberately rather than having it removed. The UK test is no more than 1mg of controlled cannabinoids, counting THC, THCV and CBN, in the whole container. A 30ml bottle is assessed as one container, so the limit does not scale with volume.

We are not publishing a THC figure for this product and we are not telling you it is or is not inside that limit, because we do not hold the per-batch certificate for the stock we would ship you. Every other page selling this oil either says nothing or asserts blanket compliance across an entire catalogue. Saying we checked and reporting what was missing is less satisfying and considerably more honest.

What the brand says about THC, and what trace means

Orange County does address this on its own page, and the wording is worth quoting because it is more candid than most: containing only trace amounts of THC, it says, the brand is able to give you the full spectrum experience while maintaining trading compliance.

Two things follow from that sentence. The first is that THC is present. The manufacturer is not claiming zero, and nobody should read a full spectrum product as THC free. That is the entire difference between full spectrum and the broad spectrum and isolate grades in the same range.

The second is that trace is not a quantity. It has no defined value, and the UK rule is an absolute figure per container rather than a description. So the sentence tells you the direction of travel and not the answer. A claim of compliance with no number attached is a position rather than evidence.

One further wrinkle we found across this range. A trade wholesaler lists this 1500mg oil as broad spectrum while the brand, a specialist retailer and our own catalogue all record it as full spectrum. The same disagreement appears on the 1000mg bottle, so it looks systematic rather than a single mislabel.

Five per cent, and how it is meant to be taken

The measurements are consistent everywhere, which is unusual in this category. Fifty milligrams in a full pipette, 2.5mg in a drop, 5 per cent in the bottle. Twenty drops fill the pipette.

The published method is sublingual: dispense under the tongue and hold it there for up to 45 seconds before swallowing. The reasoning is that the tissue under the tongue absorbs directly rather than sending everything through the digestive system first. Swallowing it immediately is not wrong, it is just a different route.

The base is MCT oil, a coconut-derived carrier, and Orange County describes the extract as cold pressed with the terpenes retained. Those terpenes are what give a full spectrum oil its taste, which is earthy and green rather than neutral.

The brand sells the 1500mg unflavoured, relying on the terpenes for its character. Our supply carries four options. Natural is the one matching the brand's own version, Mint is the most effective at covering the hemp note, and Apple and Cherry sweeten it without hiding it.

Where it sits among the 30ml bottles

The 30ml bottle is the standard size across this range and it comes in five strengths, so the choice is entirely about concentration rather than quantity. Every one of them holds the same 30ml and the same twenty drops per pipette.

This 1500mg sits second from the bottom. The 500mg below it is broad spectrum, meaning the THC has been removed, which makes it the option to take if the whole subject above concerns you. Everything from 1000mg upwards in a 30ml bottle is full spectrum.

Above it, the 3000mg doubles the per drop figure to around 5mg and the 6000mg reaches roughly 10mg a drop, at which point a single drop is the FSA's whole advisory figure. Those are for people who already know what suits them, not for working it out.

Who should not buy this one

If you want to avoid THC, a full spectrum oil is the wrong grade by definition. The 500mg 30ml bottle in the same range is broad spectrum and the 1000mg 10ml is isolate, and both sidestep the question entirely.

If you are tested for cannabinoids for work or sport, understand what full spectrum means before you take any of it. That is a statement about the product rather than a prediction about you.

If you want a settled figure for the THC in this bottle, we cannot give you one, the brand's lab report page did not yield one when we looked, and no retailer selling it publishes one either.

And if you are new to CBD oil, 2.5mg a drop is manageable but the earthy terpene taste of a full spectrum oil is the thing most people are unprepared for. Mint helps. So does knowing in advance that it is not meant to taste of nothing.
