Vitality CBD Lemon Oral Drops, 30ml

The matched pair, and a correction to our own earlier page

Our listing for the Lemon Dual Applicator makes the case that lemon is the only flavour in Vitality's range where you can hold the flavouring constant and change only the carrier oil, because lemon is the only flavour made in all three formats.

That argument stands. The pair it pointed at does not, because the Lemon Dual Applicator is currently unavailable in both of its strengths.

Here is the pairing that actually works, and it is a better one anyway. These Lemon Oral Drops at 1200mg are built on hemp seed oil. The Lemon Oral Spray at 1200mg is built on MCT. Both are 30ml, both are the same flavour from the same brand, both are the same strength, and both are obtainable.

That last point is what makes it a genuine comparison rather than a rough one. The dual applicator sits at 2400mg and 4800mg, so comparing it against these drops would have changed the concentration as well as the carrier. Drops against spray changes the carrier and the applicator and nothing else, with both bottles at forty milligrams in each millilitre.

So if you have ever wondered whether the carrier oil in a CBD product genuinely affects what it tastes like, that is the experiment, and it is two bottles rather than a theory.

Isolate or broad spectrum, because the sellers do not agree

This is a real disagreement about a real difference, and it is worth setting out because it changes what the product is.

Our distributor describes these drops as ninety-nine per cent pure CBD with no THC. That is a description of an isolate: purified CBD with everything else from the plant removed.

A retailer selling the same bottle describes it as a broad spectrum hemp extract containing over forty additional cannabinoids, flavonoids and terpenes. That is a description of something else entirely.

Both cannot be right. Ninety-nine per cent pure CBD leaves one per cent for everything else, which does not accommodate forty additional cannabinoids in any meaningful quantity.

We think we know where the confusion comes from, and we put it forward as a likely explanation rather than as a finding. Vitality genuinely does make a broad spectrum product line, but it is the vape liquid rather than the oil. The same distributor catalogue that lists these drops also lists a Vitality Lemon Broad Spectrum E-liquid, in the same 30ml bottle size and the same strengths. A broad spectrum claim belonging to the vape line sitting on the oral drops listing would explain the contradiction neatly.

Our own record has these as an isolate, following the distributor. We have asked for confirmation and will correct this page if the answer goes the other way. If broad spectrum specifically is what you want, this is not a bottle to buy on the strength of one retailer's description.

The only bottle in the range that is hemp all the way through

A small framing that only becomes visible once you have looked at the whole range, which our other Vitality listings have.

Every oral product Vitality makes contains hemp-derived CBD. What changes is what it is dissolved in. The dual applicators, the sprays and the Calm Support all use MCT, which is fractionated coconut oil. The plain oral drops, including this one, use hemp seed oil.

So this is the only format where the carrier and the active come from the same plant. The CBD is extracted from hemp, and the oil it sits in is pressed from hemp seed. Coconut does not appear anywhere in the bottle.

That is not a functional advantage and we are not going to pretend it is one. Our Berry Oral Drops listing goes through the practical consequences of the hemp seed carrier, which include a genuine downside around how it keeps.

It is, though, the answer to a question some people genuinely have, which is whether it is possible to buy a CBD oil that is entirely a hemp product. In this range, this format is the one.

Lemon over hemp seed oil is the most divided combination in the range

Lemon is the sharpest flavour Vitality makes. Hemp seed oil is the most assertive carrier it uses. Putting them together produces the most polarising bottle in the range, and both of our other lemon and drops listings have circled this without landing on it.

The lemon reads as peel rather than juice, bright and slightly bitter at the edges. The hemp seed oil underneath it is green, faintly nutty and unmistakably a seed oil. Neither hides the other.

People who like it describe it as tasting like a plant product rather than a flavoured supplement, which is exactly right. People who do not tend to say the lemon and the hemp are arguing rather than blending.

The same lemon flavouring over MCT, which is what the spray gives you, is a much simpler experience: sharp citrus over almost nothing. Whether simpler is better is entirely a matter of preference, and it is the whole point of the comparison set out above.

The rest of the specification

Three ingredients: CBD, raw organic hemp seed oil and natural lemon flavouring. Thirty millilitre bottle, glass pipette, described as lab tested with no THC.

Two strengths exist, 600mg and 1200mg, which work out at twenty or forty milligrams in each millilitre. Our Berry Oral Drops listing does the per-drop arithmetic for both, and it applies unchanged here since only the flavouring differs.

Our own catalogue record for this product carries no strength, which is a gap at our end rather than in the range. It is worth checking which bottle you are ordering until we have corrected it.

Who should choose something else

Anyone who wants a clean flavour. The hemp seed carrier is present in every mouthful and the lemon does not cover it. The Lemon Oral Spray is the same flavour over MCT and is the simpler drink.

Anyone who wants broad spectrum. Our distributor describes this as an isolate, and the one description saying otherwise is more likely to belong to Vitality's vape line than to this bottle.

Anyone who wants a strong oil. At twenty or forty milligrams in a millilitre this is the mild tier, and Vitality's dual applicators are four times the concentration when they are available.

And anyone who dislikes sharp citrus should start with the Natural rather than the Lemon, because this is the least forgiving flavour and carrier combination Vitality puts in one bottle.
