Vitality CBD Berry Oral Drops, 30ml

This is the mild tier, and the naming does not say so

Vitality sells berry CBD oil in a 30ml bottle in two entirely different strength families, and the names are Oral Drops and Dual Applicator, neither of which is a strength.

These Oral Drops come in 600mg and 1200mg. The Dual Applicator, same brand and same flavour, comes in 2400mg and 4800mg.

Put that in a comparable unit and it is stark. These are 20 or 40 milligrams in each millilitre. The Dual Applicator is 80 or 160. The Dual Applicator's weakest bottle is twice the concentration of the strongest bottle on this page.

That is a fourfold gap between two products that look like siblings, and if you have used one and are switching to the other, nothing on the label warns you.

None of which makes the mild one worse. A low-concentration oil is easier to take in small amounts and harder to overshoot with, which is a genuine argument for starting here. But it should be a choice rather than an accident.

One drop is two milligrams

Bottles are labelled in total milligrams and taken in drops, and almost nobody connects the two. Here is the connection.

Retailer copy for the 1200mg states that a full 1ml pipette holds twenty drops and delivers 40mg. That checks out. Twelve hundred milligrams spread through thirty millilitres is forty milligrams in each millilitre, and twenty drops to a millilitre is the standard figure for a glass pipette.

So a single drop from the 1200mg bottle is two milligrams. From the 600mg bottle it is one.

That is a small unit, and it is the point of a low-concentration oil: it lets you move in increments of one or two milligrams rather than in jumps. Our listing for the Dual Applicator works out that a 0.2ml draw from the 4800mg bottle is 32mg, which is an entirely different way to take the same brand's oil.

One line on quantity, and it is context rather than instruction. The Food Standards Agency's precautionary advice for healthy adults is ten milligrams of CBD a day from supplements. At two milligrams a drop that is a countable number of drops, which is not true of the stronger bottles. You will also find listings for this product recommending seventy milligrams a day, which is the older FSA figure, superseded in 2023. Hemp seed oil keeps differently, and that matters here

These drops are CBD in raw organic hemp seed oil. What hemp seed oil is, and the fact that it contains no cannabinoids of its own, is covered on several of our other listings and there is no sense repeating it. What nobody covers is the practical consequence.

Hemp seed oil is a polyunsaturated seed oil. Those oxidise. Left in warmth or light, or with the lid off, they degrade faster than a saturated oil does, which is why cold-pressed seed oils in a kitchen are sold in dark bottles and kept in the fridge.

MCT, which is what Vitality uses in its Dual Applicator and its sprays, is a fractionated coconut oil and is notably stable by comparison. It is one of the reasons MCT dominates this category.

So a bottle of CBD in hemp seed oil has genuinely different keeping requirements from the same brand's MCT products. Cool, dark, lid on, and think of it as something to use rather than something to store for a couple of years at the back of a cupboard.

That is not a criticism of the product. It is the trade-off that comes with a plant-based carrier, and it is worth knowing because no page selling it says a word about it.

Berry over hemp seed oil is a harder job than berry over MCT

Flavouring exists in these products because unflavoured CBD oil tastes of its carrier, and the carrier here has a taste of its own.

Hemp seed oil is green, grassy and faintly nutty. It is not unpleasant and plenty of people like it, but it is present in a way MCT is not, because MCT is close to flavourless by design.

So the berry flavouring in this bottle is working against a background, while the berry flavouring in Vitality's MCT products is working against almost nothing. The result is that this reads as berry over something rather than berry alone: sweeter at the front, greener underneath, and noticeably more herbal on the finish.

Whether that is a fault depends entirely on what you want. If you would rather taste the plant, this is the one that lets you. If you want the flavour to do all the talking, the MCT-based products in the range do that better.

Vitality makes the same drops in Natural, which is unflavoured, and in Lemon. The Natural is the honest way to find out what hemp seed oil actually tastes like before committing to a flavour built on top of it.

The strengths do not agree between sellers, and our own listing shows none

Two problems with the numbers attached to this product, one ours and one not.

Our distributor lists these drops in 600mg and 1200mg. At least one retailer advertises the same line as running from 600mg up to 2400mg, implying a third strength that our supplier does not carry. The published ranges for this line do not agree with each other, so check what a given seller actually has rather than assuming the range is standard.

The problem at our end is simpler. Our catalogue record carries no strength for this product at all and no choice between the two we can get. That is a data gap rather than anything to do with the product, we have flagged it internally, and until it is fixed it is worth confirming which bottle you are ordering.

The rest of the specification is stable across every source: 30ml bottle, glass pipette, CBD described as 99 per cent pure with no THC, and third-party testing.

Ninety-nine per cent pure means isolate: purified CBD with the other plant compounds removed. There is no THC and nothing else from the cannabis plant, so the UK limit of one milligram of controlled cannabinoids in a container is not a live question here. Who should choose something else

Anyone who wants a strong oil. This is the mild tier by a factor of four, and Vitality's own Dual Applicator or the Orange County oils are where to look instead.

Anyone who wants to take it as a spray. These come with a pipette only. The Dual Applicator includes both heads and the Lemon Oral Spray is spray-only.

Anyone who dislikes the taste of hemp. The carrier is hemp seed oil and it comes through the berry, which is the opposite of what an MCT product does.

Anyone who buys a bottle and works through it slowly over a long period. A polyunsaturated carrier is not the one for that, and an MCT-based product will keep better.

And anyone who wants a full or broad spectrum oil. This is isolate, which is a deliberate formulation choice rather than a shortcoming, but it does mean there is nothing in the bottle beyond CBD, hemp seed oil and flavouring.
