RAW x Lyrical Lemonade Organic Hemp Papers, King Size Wide

A flavoured paper from the brand that made its name on not flavouring anything

RAW's pitch has been consistent for two decades. Unrefined, unbleached, no dyes, no chalk, no burn additives, nothing between you and the plant. The headings on RAW's own page for this exact product still read RAW is less processed and Beyond unbleached.

And then the flavour. RAW describes how it got there in its own words: Juicy Jays Superfine techniques for Lyrical Lemonade flavour enhancing including terps. Juicy Jay's is the flavoured paper house, and the two brands sit in the same stable, which is why the technique was available to borrow. We stock four Juicy Jay's lines, so this is a comparison we can make and a single-brand shop cannot.

The contrast gets sharper if you look at what RAW says about its own Organic Hemp Black paper, which is on our shelf too. That paper is sold on the basis that it is thin and low porosity so it burns slowly and preserves your terps, meaning the terpenes already in whatever you are smoking. This paper adds terpenes on top. Same company, opposite argument, and both are reasonable positions to hold. They just are not the same product philosophy.

So who is this for. It is for someone who likes RAW paper and wants a flavour, which is a real group of people and not a contradiction on their part. It is not for the RAW buyer who chose RAW specifically because nothing was added, and that person should know before ordering rather than after.

King size wide, and the awkward thing RAW says about it

Size is the specification most likely to catch out someone who orders these on brand loyalty alone.

These are king size wide. Not king size slim, which is the format most regular rollers have settled on, and which is what our other RAW papers are. Wide means a broader leaf: more paper for the same length of smoke, more overlap when you roll, and a noticeably different feel if slim is what your hands are used to.

Here is the awkward part. RAW's own listing for its Organic Hemp King Size Slim explains why slim exists, and it does so by criticising the wide format directly. Its wording is that slim rolls a nice long smoke without too much leftover paper width like older king sizes, and it adds that if you smoked the outdated regular king size you know why slim took over.

That is the manufacturer, on another of its own products, calling this product's format outdated. We are not raising it to be clever about it. Limited edition collaborations are often built on the wide format because there is more room for the artwork, which is very likely what happened here. But if you roll slim by habit, you are going to notice, and no page selling these mentions it.

Thirty-two, fifty, and the number nobody prints

The counts on this product are published in pieces, and the piece everyone leaves out is the one people actually want.

A booklet holds thirty-two leaves. That figure is on RAW's own page and on every retailer page we checked. A box holds fifty booklets, which RAW does not state anywhere but our distributor does, and which the trade code confirms.

Thirty-two multiplied by fifty is one thousand six hundred leaves in a box. We could not find that figure published by anyone, including RAW.

It is worth doing the arithmetic yourself because at least one shop has got it wrong. A US retailer ranking in the top ten for this product publishes twelve hundred leaves on the same page where it states thirty-two sheets a booklet and a fifty-pack display. Those three numbers cannot all be true.

That same page is worth a further mention, because it is a useful lesson in reading listings. Its main heading is about RAW Camo rolling papers, its specification block lists the design as Camo, and every one of its five product questions asks about RAW Classic Camo papers. It is a Camo page with a Lyrical Lemonade title on it. This is the second time in a month we have found a well-ranked retailer serving one product's copy on another product's listing, so check the specification against the picture before you order from anywhere.

Lemonade and Lemonade Grape

Two flavours exist in this collaboration and we carry both.

Lemonade is the original and the one the whole project is named after. It is a sweet, sharp lemonade rather than a sour lemon, closer to the soft drink than to the fruit, and it is noticeable on the pack before you have rolled anything. The flavour sits on the paper, so you get most of it early and on the lips rather than through the whole smoke.

Lemonade Grape is the newer of the two and layers a sweet purple grape note over the same lemonade base. Grape is the more polarising flavour of the pair, in the way grape flavouring generally is: it reads as confectionery rather than fruit. If you are unsure, the plain Lemonade is the safer first choice.

Neither flavour changes what the paper is. Both are the same organic hemp sheet, the same king size wide format, the same thirty-two leaves and the same acacia gum strip.

There is also a Lyrical Lemonade bud wrap in this collaboration, sold as filled-and-ready cones in a glass tube rather than as papers. We do not carry it. If wraps are what you are after, the Juicy Jay's hemp wraps in our range are the closest thing we stock.

What is actually in it, and what is not

The sheet is RAW organic hemp paper. The gum strip is vegan, made from organic acacia tree sap, which is tree resin and the standard adhesive on natural papers. The flavour is terpenes applied to the paper.

There is no CBD in these, no CBG, and no cannabinoid of any kind. Terpenes are the aromatic compounds that give plants their smell, and they are used here purely as flavouring. Nothing about UK cannabinoid rules applies to a rolling paper, and any listing that implies otherwise is confused.

There is no tobacco and no nicotine either. These are papers, and what you put in them is your business.

One practical note on limited editions. This is a collaboration release rather than a permanent line, which means it is made in runs and can disappear without warning. If you find a flavour you like in this range, that is a reason to think about it now rather than assuming it will still be listed next year.

Who should not buy these

Anyone who buys RAW precisely because nothing is added to it. That is the single most common reason people choose this brand, and this is the one RAW paper that does not fit the reason.

Anyone who rolls king size slim by habit. Wide is a real difference in the hand, and RAW itself argues elsewhere that slim is the better format.

Anyone who dislikes flavoured papers generally. The flavour is on the sheet, it is present from the first draw, and there is no way to have the collaboration artwork without it.

Anyone hoping for CBD. There is none. If you want a cannabinoid alongside your paper, that is a separate purchase from our CBD range rather than something this product provides.
