Multitrance makes at least five of these

Look at the manufacturer's own site and the cannabis energy drink section is not one product. It is a family.

There is this Energizer. There is a Crazy Amsterdam. There is an Amsterdam Power. There is a HaZe Cannabis Energy Drink, sold both by the case and singly. A UK retailer also lists a Power Canna-Booster in the same 250ml format. All are 250ml, all are cannabis branded, all are energy drinks, and all look broadly alike on a shelf.

So the only question worth answering on this page is whether they are the same drink under two names. That question has never been answered by the manufacturer, by our distributor, or by any retailer we could find, and it is the first thing anyone comparing the two listings would want to know.

They are not the same drink. Here is how we know.

The ingredient lists prove they are different drinks

Set the published ingredient lists side by side and the differences are unambiguous. This is the evidence nobody has bothered to assemble.

The Energizer declares carbonated water, sugar, added CO2, citric acid, trisodium citrate as an acidity regulator, taurine at 0.4 per cent, caffeine at 0.032 per cent, flavouring, two colourings, cannabis sativa extract, and vitamins B2, B5, B6 and B12.

The HaZe can in the same family declares drinking water, sugar, aroma, one colourant, citric acid, taurine, caffeine, two preservatives, the same four B vitamins, and cannabis sativa extract.

Three differences stand out. The Energizer carries a second colouring the other does not. The HaZe list carries potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate as preservatives, which do not appear on the Energizer list at all. And the Energizer specifies trisodium citrate and added carbon dioxide, which the other does not.

That is enough to settle it. These are separate formulations rather than one liquid in different livery, and anyone who found one of them too sweet, too fizzy or too preserved has a genuine reason to try the other.

Why this one is green

The second colouring is the visible difference between the cans, and it is worth naming.

The Energizer carries E140 alongside E150a. E150a is plain caramel, which is brown and is what gives most soft drinks their colour. E140 is chlorophyll, the green pigment plants use for photosynthesis, and it is the standard food colouring used when something needs to look green.

So a drink carrying both is being pushed towards green rather than left cola coloured. On a can sold on cannabis branding that is an entirely predictable decision, and it explains why the two products look different in the hand even though their names barely do.

The HaZe can lists caramel alone, so it stays brown.

None of that tells you anything about how they taste. It does tell you that the difference between these two products was a deliberate formulation choice rather than a packaging refresh, which is the useful part.

The cannabis element, in one paragraph

Both cans list cannabis sativa extract among the ingredients and neither publishes a cannabinoid figure of any kind. Our own catalogue records no strength for this product, and no retailer, distributor or the manufacturer states one.

The manufacturer describes the range as THC free and made in the EU. What the cannabis sativa extract contributes beyond the name is not quantified by anybody, and we are not going to fill that gap with a guess.

We would rather say this plainly than let you find it at the basket.

All four products in our soft and energy drinks section are unavailable at the time of writing: this Energizer, the Crazy Amsterdam, the cannabis ice tea and the SoStoned energy drink. That is the whole subcategory rather than one line running short.

Canned drinks are heavy, they ship badly and they tie up warehouse space, which makes them the first thing a distributor lets run down. We do not know that is the reason here, but the pattern is consistent across four products from two different brands.

What is available is the hot drinks side of the range, which is a different proposition but the same cupboard. The instant cappuccinos, the hot chocolate and the tea bags are all in stock, and several of them state an actual CBD content rather than an unquantified extract.

Who should not buy this

If you want a drink with a stated CBD content, this is not it and neither is anything else in the canned range. The extract is unquantified by everyone in the chain. The tea and coffee lines state real figures.

If caffeine is a problem for you, remember what this is. Cannabis branding does not change the fact that it is a conventional energy drink with roughly the caffeine of a standard can, plus taurine, and it is not suitable for children or for anyone avoiding stimulants.

If you already have the Crazy Amsterdam and liked it, be aware you are buying a different formulation rather than more of the same. The lists differ, and so may the taste.
