HaZe Holland Ganja Wars Small Rolling Tray

Small here means smaller than most other brands call small

Rolling tray size labels are not standardised, and the gap between brands is far wider than anyone selling them lets on.

This tray is eighteen centimetres by fourteen. A RAW tray labelled small is eleven inches by seven, which is nearly twenty-eight centimetres by eighteen. That is not a slightly larger small. It is physically bigger than the HaZe Holland tray labelled large, which is twenty-seven by sixteen. An Elements tray labelled small is bigger again.

Run the same comparison the other way and this tray lands almost exactly on RAW's mini, at 7.25 by 5 inches. So if you have used a RAW mini and found it about right, this is your size. If you have used a RAW small and found it about right, you want the large HaZe tray, and even then you are going down slightly.

General guidance for the format puts small at roughly seven by five inches up to eight by six, for solo use and travel. Eighteen by fourteen centimetres is seven by five and a half, so this tray sits at the bottom of that band. It is a genuine small, not a medium with an optimistic label.

Measure the shelf, the desk drawer or the tin you plan to keep it in before ordering. That is the whole decision on a tray.

Metal, matte, and printed on both faces

The construction is straightforward and the brand is clear about it, even if the trade listing is not. It is lightweight metal with a matte coating rather than a gloss one, which matters more than it sounds: gloss trays throw a reflection under a lamp and show every fingerprint, and matte does neither.

Double-sided print is the specification most likely to be misread. It does not mean two artworks. The brand's own spec renders show the illustration on the face you work on, and on the reverse a marbled colour field carrying the HaZe Holland logo, the barcode and the maker's line, which reads G-Trading B.V. of Diemen, the same Amsterdam-region address Multitrance work from. Useful if you like the reverse enough to flip it over, which some people do, but it is a pattern rather than a second picture.

One honest number: the rim is a centimetre deep. That is about four tenths of an inch, and general guidance for the format suggests at least half an inch if containment is what you care about. In practice a centimetre holds ground herb and loose papers fine on a flat surface and will do nothing for you if the tray gets knocked. If you want deep walls, this is not the tray.

Eighty-eight grams is light enough to go in a bag without noticing, which is the case for the small format in the first place.

Three designs, and none of them exists in the large tray

This is the detail that sends people back for a return, and no listing anywhere mentions it.

Ganja Wars is a line rather than a design, and the line runs six artworks split across the two sizes. The small tray carries Weed Wizard, Astro High and Shroom Ninja. The large tray carries Alien Puff, Cyborg XXX and Toxic Kushbone. There is no overlap. You are not choosing a size for an artwork you have picked, you are choosing between two different sets of three.

The style across all six is consistent: hooded, neon-lit characters rendered in high-contrast illustration against swirled colour, which is where the line's own description of smoke and momentum comes from. If that reads as loud, it is meant to. These are not discreet objects and they are not pretending to be.

The two sizes are also different shapes, which follows from the numbers but is worth saying out loud. At eighteen by fourteen the small tray is close to a rounded square. At twenty-seven by sixteen the large one is a long rectangle. They do not look like siblings side by side.

One of the three is currently unavailable. Sold-out designs stay visible in the picker rather than being hidden, so you can see what is due back.

Who HaZe Holland are, and why the artwork is the product

HaZe Holland is the accessories arm of the Amsterdam house behind Multitrance, and by its own account it has been at this since 1995. The range now runs to five lines and thirty tray designs: Anime, Pixel High, Ganja Wars, Lowlands Madness and Pink Vice.

That matters because on a metal tray the artwork is not decoration on top of the product, it is the product. Every tray in this category is a stamped rectangle of tinplate with a rim. What separates one from another is the print, the finish and the dimensions, which is why this page spends its length on those three things rather than on adjectives.

The line names tell you what each set is aiming at. Ganja Wars is the loud, character-driven one. Pink Vice is softer and more graphic. Anime is exactly what it says. If none of the three Ganja Wars artworks lands for you, the other four lines exist, though we do not stock them all.

How it compares with the other trays we stock

We carry five trays, and they divide by size and by what else comes with them rather than by quality. All are metal or board with a printed face, and all do the same job.

The comparison worth making is between this and the RAW Classic Hemp tray, because they sit at opposite ends of what a printed metal tray can be: one is a compact, loud, character-illustrated object and the other is a plain hemp-paper-brown workspace nearly twice the area. Neither is better. They are for different surfaces and different tastes.

There is nothing in a rolling tray, and one word on why we stock it

It is worth one plain sentence on a shop like this one. A rolling tray contains no CBD, no CBG, no THC and no cannabinoid of any kind. It is stamped metal with a print on it. Nothing about it is ingestible, nothing about it is a food, and none of the regimes that govern CBD products apply to it.

Anyone who wants a large working surface. Eighteen by fourteen centimetres is a solo tray. A grinder, a booklet of papers, tips and a lighter will fit and very little else will, and if you like to lay out several things at once you want the large one or the RAW.

Anyone who needs deep walls. A one centimetre rim contains a spill on a flat table and nothing more dramatic than that.

Anyone who wants a specific Ganja Wars artwork they have seen elsewhere. Check which size it belongs to first, because the two sets do not overlap and half the line is unavailable in this format.

And anyone wanting something discreet. This is a loud, brightly printed object with a hooded character on it. That is the point of the line, and it is a poor choice if you want a tray that disappears into a room.
