Multitrance Cannabis Incense Sticks, Fresh Cannabis Leaves

Four sticks in the range are just the plant, and nobody has ever listed them together

Multitrance makes two cannabis incense ranges. Most of what is in them is the plant note with something else on top: a fruit, a sweet, a bakery note, a traditional incense accord.

Four sticks are not that. They are the plant on its own, with no second note, and they are split two and two across the ranges. In the Cannabis Incense Sticks range they are called Fresh Cannabis Leaves, which is this one, and Dry Cannabis Leaves. In the Haze range the same two ideas appear as Pure Fresh Cannabis and Pure Dry Cannabis.

So there are two fresh sticks and two dry ones, from one manufacturer, under two brand names. That much is discoverable if you go through both ranges carefully. What is not discoverable anywhere is how any of them differ from its opposite number in the other range, because the descriptions do not say. We have set the four out below rather than leave you to work it out from product titles.

The reason to want a plain one is straightforward: every blend in this range covers part of the plant note with something sweeter, and if the plant note is the thing you actually came for, a blend will bury it. The description on this product is about the other one

This is worth knowing before you rely on anything written about these sticks anywhere.

Every one of the twelve products in this range arrives with the same block of text. Not a similar block. The same one, word for word, on the bubblegum, on the chocolate, on the nag champa and on this. It never names a scent, which is presumably why it can be reused, and it means the description on a Multitrance incense listing tells you nothing about which incense you are looking at.

It is worse than merely unhelpful here. The shared text describes the sticks as combining the natural essence of dry cannabis leaves with complementary aromatic notes. That sentence sits on the listing for Fresh Cannabis Leaves, a product whose entire identity is that it is not the dry one, and which has no complementary aromatic note either.

The other range does the same thing in the opposite direction. Its shared text refers to the leafy freshness of cannabis leaves, and appears unchanged on both Pure Fresh Cannabis and Pure Dry Cannabis. Whichever range you look at, the copy contradicts one of the two plain sticks in it.

None of this makes the product worse. The sticks are what they say on the box. It does mean that if you are trying to choose between four plain cannabis incenses, the manufacturer's own words are not going to help you, and neither is any retailer repeating them. That is the gap this page exists to fill.

What green actually smells like

Fresh and dry are not two strengths of the same smell. They are two different families, and knowing which family you are in explains most of the disagreement people have about this stick.

In perfumery, green notes are the smell of intact living plant material: cut grass, snapped stems, crushed leaves, the inside of a hedge. They are sharp, cool, slightly bitter and distinctly wet, and they sit high in a composition, which means you notice them immediately and they do not last.

Dried plant material smells nothing like that. Drying breaks down the compounds that make green smell green and builds different ones in their place, which is why hay, tea, tobacco leaf and dried herbs all read warm, sweet and soft rather than sharp. That is the same transformation that separates this stick from the Dry Cannabis Leaves one, and it is a chemical change rather than a matter of degree.

So the fresh version is the more confrontational of the two. It arrives fast, reads cool and vegetal, and has none of the roundness that makes the dried one easy company. People who dislike it usually describe it as sharp or as smelling like something cut rather than something burning, which is exactly right and exactly the point.

One practical consequence. Because green notes are light and volatile, this is the stick that changes most across its burn. The first few minutes are the greenest part, and what is left in the room afterwards is softer than what you started with.

Choosing between the four when the copy will not help

In the absence of anything useful from the manufacturer, here is how we would approach it.

Start with fresh or dry, because that is the real decision and it is not reversible by burning a different one for longer. Fresh if you want the green, living, just-cut smell and are happy for it to be sharp. Dry if you want warm, herbal and hay-like, which is the more forgiving of the two and the one most people mean when they picture cannabis incense.

Then the range, which matters much less. The Haze versions carry strain-style naming and sit inside a single twelve-scent listing, while these sit in the fruit and confectionery range. We have no basis for claiming the recipes differ, because neither the maker nor the distributor states it, and we are not going to invent a difference to make the choice feel more meaningful than it is.

If you are buying to try the range rather than because you already know what you want, the dried version is the safer first stick and this one is the more interesting second.

What is in it, briefly

Hand-rolled incense made in India, carrying a cannabis leaf aroma. There is no THC and no CBD, and no cannabinoid of any kind, which is worth restating because the phrase CBD incense sticks circulates for these and is wrong. Our blueberry listing goes through where that error comes from.

Nothing in the UK rules covering CBD products applies here, because there is nothing in the stick for those rules to govern. What does apply is ordinary care with burning things indoors, which our coconut listing covers properly rather than repeating here.

Who should choose a different stick

Anyone who wants the warm, cured, hay-like smell most people associate with cannabis incense. That is the Dry Cannabis Leaves stick, not this one, and the difference between them is a genuine one rather than a matter of taste.

Anyone who finds green fragrance unpleasant. Cut grass and snapped stems are polarising smells and this is a stick built entirely out of that family, with nothing sweet in it to soften the edges.

Anyone buying incense to make a room smell pleasant to guests. A plain plant note is the least conventionally attractive thing in this range. The vanilla, coconut and cookies blends are the ones that read as room fragrance.

Anyone expecting it to smell like cannabis being smoked. It does not. It is the smell of the leaf, not of combustion, and those are different things.

And anyone hoping for a cannabinoid. There is none in this or in any incense.
