Multitrance Cranberry Cannabis Cookie Bites

For once the problem is what the listing leaves out

Our distributor describes these as deliciously flavoured snack bites with a vibrant cranberry profile and playful cannabis-inspired branding, and notes the cannabis-themed design adds personality to a range. Nowhere does it claim CBD, and credit for that: most of the cannabis-branded listings we have worked through claim a cannabinoid that is not there.

The trouble is what it does not say. There is real hemp in this recipe, in two forms. The manufacturer's ingredient list runs wheat flour, butter at twenty per cent, a maltitol sweetener, palm oil, pasteurised egg mass, hemp flour at five per cent, potato starch, salt, carotene colours and hemp oil. The cranberry version carries corn flakes and chocolate chips through it. It is described as having no added sugar.

And it carries a may-contain warning for soy, tree nuts, peanuts and sesame, on top of the milk and egg that are ingredients rather than traces.

None of that appears on our listing. Not the hemp, not the allergens, not the sweetener, not the corn flakes. A biscuit containing butter and egg with a four-way nut, soy and sesame warning is not a product to sell on branding alone, so we have put the whole thing on this page.

One honest limit on the above. Those ingredients come from a European retailer of the same line, which is manufacturer copy rather than a label we have read ourselves, and its page no longer resolves. On other pages in this range we have downloaded and read the actual panel. We have not been able to for this one, so read the list as the manufacturer's published recipe pending confirmation, and if any single line in it matters to you, ask us and we will get the current panel from the distributor before you order.

Hemp flour is a third thing again, and worth understanding

Three different hemp ingredients turn up across this brand's range and they are routinely treated as interchangeable. They are not.

Hemp flour is made by milling the seed cake left after hemp seed oil has been pressed. It is a baking ingredient, high in protein and fibre, with a nutty flavour and no meaningful cannabinoid content. At five per cent of a biscuit it is doing a real job on texture and taste.

Hemp seed oil is the pressed oil from the same seed. Also a food ingredient, also no meaningful cannabinoid.

CBD extract is made from the flower and leaf, and any product containing it will tell you how many milligrams, because that is the whole reason to buy it.

So this biscuit genuinely contains hemp, twice over, and contains no CBD. Both statements are true at the same time, and the confusion between them is why the cannabis leaf on the wrapper misleads people.

Two cookie bites, and only one of them is labelled by flavour

Our distributor sells two cookie bites and we list both. One is titled as the cranberry. The other is titled simply as Cannabis Cookie Bites, with no flavour at all.

That second one is the chocolate. Its web address at the distributor ends chocolate-cannabis-cookie-bites, its photograph is filed as a chocolate cookie image, and the brand's own shop lists the pair plainly as Cookiebites Chocolate and Cookiebites Cranberry. Only the title dropped the word.

So if you were looking for the chocolate one, it is on our site and it does not say so. The table below covers both, and the link is in the related list at the foot of this page.

How to tell a Multitrance cookie with CBD from one without

This brand has a consistent rule and it is the most useful thing to know before buying anything from it: when a product contains CBD, the milligrams are in the product name.

Its cookie shelf lists twelve products. Exactly three have a figure: a 90mg CBD Cream Cookies box, and CBD Cream Cookies at 10mg in chocolate and in hazelnut. The cookie bites and all four Space Cookies have none.

We have found the same rule on the brand's chocolate range, where one bar of six carries a figure, and on its gummies, where nine gummy bears state 300mg and the two cannabis gummies state nothing. Three ranges, one rule, and it has held every time we have checked it.

The awkward part is that our own shelf puts both kinds side by side. These no-figure bites sit in the same Cookies and Biscuits aisle as Multitrance CBD Cream Cookies at 10mg a cookie. Same brand, same word on the packet, entirely different purchase. The table is how to tell them apart.

How big one actually is, and what it tastes like

The size is genuinely unclear and we would rather say so. Our distributor states 22g and lists the line as a single pack or as a case. A European retailer of the same product lists it at 135g. The brand sells both a single bite and a box.

The likeliest reading is that 22g is the individual wrapped bite and the larger figure is a jar or a box of them, but that is inference rather than something anyone has confirmed to us. We have asked, and until we have an answer we are not going to print a count for what our own listing ships as.

On taste: a firm, buttery shortbread-style bite rather than a soft cookie, with twenty per cent butter doing most of the work. The cranberry is sharp against the sweetness, the corn flakes give a crackle that survives the bake, and the chocolate chips are the sweetest thing in it.

The hemp flour reads as a light nuttiness in the background, closer to wholemeal than to anything herbal. There is no cannabis flavour, no bitterness and nothing grassy. Because it is sweetened with maltitol rather than sugar, the sweetness is cleaner and slightly cooler than a standard biscuit, which some people notice and some do not.

Who this is not for

Anyone with an allergy, until you have asked us. Milk and egg are ingredients, and the manufacturer carries a may-contain warning for soy, tree nuts, peanuts and sesame. None of that is on our listing, we have not yet read the current panel ourselves, and a biscuit is exactly the wrong product to guess about.

Anyone who wants CBD. There is no cannabinoid figure on it because there is no cannabinoid extract in it. The 10mg cream cookies from the same brand are two rows down the table above and they are the honest alternative.

Anyone sensitive to sugar alcohols. Maltitol is what makes this a no-added-sugar biscuit, and polyols do not suit everyone in quantity.

Anyone expecting a soft American-style cookie. This is a firm, short, buttery bite, and the corn flakes make it crunchier still.

And anyone who needs to know exactly how much they are getting. The weight is stated three different ways across the market and our own unit is unconfirmed.
