Multitrance Cannabis Milk Chocolate, 80g

The two milk listings appear to have swapped their ingredient panels

Our distributor sells two Amsterdam milk chocolate bars. We downloaded the ingredient panel from each listing and read them both.

The listing titled with hazelnuts carries panel canna43. That panel is a HaZe Original Amsterdam wrapper, it declares milk chocolate with hemp seeds at ten per cent, and it lists no hazelnut ingredient at all. Nuts appear on it only as a may-contain-traces warning.

This listing, titled plainly with no mention of hazelnut, carries panel canna45. That panel is a Multitrance wrapper, it prints milk chocolate with hemp seeds and hazelnut pieces across the front, and its ingredient line reads a mix of shelled hemp seeds and roasted hazelnut kernels at ten per cent.

So each title contradicts its own panel, and in opposite directions. There is a further pointer on this listing: the photograph supplied with it is a file named for the hazelnut bar. The title is the only element on this page pointing away from hazelnut. The panel and the picture both point at it.

The same crossing appears on the dark pair. The listing titled plainly as the dark chocolate carries panel canna44 and a photograph filed under a hazelnut name as well. Two pairs, the same pattern, which makes it systemic rather than a slip.

We cannot tell you which is authoritative, so we are not going to. What we will do is refuse to assert a nut content in either direction, and ask you to contact us first if nuts matter to you. We have asked the distributor for written confirmation of which panel belongs to which bar. When they answer, this page changes.

Ten per cent is the mixture, not the hemp seed

This is a small phrase on the panel that changes what you are buying, and no retailer states it.

The canna45 line reads a mix of shelled hemp seeds and roasted hazelnut kernels at ten per cent. That ten per cent is the two ingredients combined. It is not ten per cent hemp seed with hazelnuts on top.

On an 80g bar, ten per cent is about eight grams in total. Split between seeds and nuts in an unstated ratio, the hemp seed share is meaningfully less than eight grams, and possibly far less. Anyone buying this for the hemp rather than for the chocolate should know that.

By contrast the sibling panel, canna43, gives a clean ten per cent for hemp seeds alone. If the hemp content is the point of the purchase, that is the clearer of the two labels, whichever bar it actually belongs to.

The rest of the recipe is straightforward and better documented than most bars in this range: sugar, cocoa butter, whole milk powder, cocoa mass, the seed and nut mixture, soya lecithin and polyglycerol polyricinoleate as emulsifiers, and Bourbon Madagascar vanilla extract. Minimum thirty one per cent cocoa solids. Made in the EU, and the pack carries a nicotine-free mark.

The nutrition panel, which nobody else publishes

Both bars print full nutrition figures and no retailer selling either one reproduces them. They are worth having, because 555 calories per 100g on an 80g bar is a real number rather than a rounding.

The two panels are close enough that the choice between them is not a nutritional one. The differences are within a calorie or two per hundred grams, and the meaningful gap is fibre, where the seed and nut mixture gives slightly more.

What it tastes like, and what the cannabis in the name is doing

Sweet Amsterdam milk chocolate, softer and milkier than a British bar at the same cocoa percentage, with a genuine crunch running through it rather than a token scatter.

If the bar in the wrapper is the seed and nut mixture, the roasted hazelnut is the louder of the two and the hemp reads as a background nuttiness closer to sunflower seed. If it turns out to be the hemp seed version, the crunch is finer and plainer.

Either way it does not taste of cannabis. There is no extract in it, nothing herbal, nothing grassy and nothing bitter. The cannabis element is the seeds and the artwork, and that is the honest summary of the whole product.

There is no CBD in it either, and no milligram figure, which is the shared story across this whole range. The sibling page sets out how Multitrance signals which of its bars do contain CBD, and it is worth two minutes if you arrived here expecting a cannabinoid.

How it sits against the other cannabis and CBD chocolates we stock

The column to read is the last one. Only the bottom two rows have a stated cannabinoid figure, and everything above them is a hemp product wearing cannabis packaging.

The first two rows are the disputed pair described above. We have listed them next to each other deliberately rather than hiding the problem.

Who this is not for

Anyone with a nut allergy, and this one is not a formality. This listing's title says nothing about nuts while its own ingredient panel declares roasted hazelnut kernels, and the sibling listing says the reverse. Do not order either on the strength of the title or the panel. Contact us and we will get written confirmation from the distributor first.

Anyone with a milk or soya allergy. Both are declared in bold on the panel, as the labelling rules require, and neither is repeated by any retailer selling the bar.

Anyone who wants CBD. There is none in it and no milligram figure anywhere on the pack. If a cannabinoid is what you came for, the last two rows of the table above are the products with a real number on them.

Anyone buying it for the hemp content specifically. The ten per cent on this panel is a hemp and hazelnut mixture rather than a hemp seed figure, so you are getting less seed than the number suggests.

And anyone who wants it today. This bar is out of stock while its sibling is available, which is an awkward position given the two of them disagree about what is inside.
