Why booster shots are 10ml

The 10ml bottle is a shape created by nicotine law, and it has been borrowed for a product that contains no nicotine at all.

Under the UK rules that came in with the Tobacco Products Directive, e-liquid containing nicotine may only be sold in bottles of 10ml, at a maximum strength of 20mg per millilitre, and tanks are capped at 2ml. Those limits are the reason every nicotine shot you have ever seen is a 10ml bottle: it is the largest one the law allows.

The workaround the industry built around that is the shortfill. In law a container only counts as a refill container if it contains nicotine, so a bottle of nicotine-free liquid is not caught by the 10ml cap. Makers therefore sell 50ml or 100ml bottles of 0mg liquid, deliberately under-filled, leaving room for the buyer to add their own nicotine shot afterwards.

CBD is not nicotine and none of those rules apply to it. There is no legal cap on how much CBD an e-liquid may contain or how big the bottle may be, which is why we sell CBD e-liquids in 50ml and 60ml bottles with no shot required.

So a CBD booster shot is a 10ml bottle sized by a regulation that does not govern what is inside it. That is not a criticism, and there is a genuinely good reason the format persists: the bottles, the habit and the mixing knowledge already exist. A booster lets you add CBD to a liquid you already like rather than buying a separate CBD e-liquid in a flavour you may not want.

What it does to the strength of what you add it to

This is straightforward arithmetic and nobody publishes it, so here it is.

The shot itself is 1000mg in 10ml, which is 100mg of CBD in each millilitre. All of that CBD ends up in whatever you add it to, so the resulting strength depends entirely on the final volume.

Add the whole shot to a 50ml shortfill and you end up with 60ml of liquid containing 1000mg, which works out at roughly 16.7mg in each millilitre. Add it to a 100ml shortfill and you have 110ml containing 1000mg, or roughly 9.1mg per millilitre.

That is a dilution calculation rather than a recommendation. We are describing what the numbers do and not suggesting how much anyone should use, which is a line we hold on every product we sell.

The catch nobody mentions: you only have 10ml of room

A 50ml shortfill is not sold in a 50ml bottle. It is sold in a 60ml bottle with 50ml of liquid in it, and that missing 10ml is deliberate. It is the space a nicotine shot goes into.

Put a 10ml CBD booster in there and the space is used up. Which means you cannot add both a nicotine shot and a CBD booster to the same standard shortfill, because there is only room for one of them.

If you want both, you need a larger empty bottle to mix into, or a shortfill with more headroom than the standard. It is an obvious point once stated and we have not found a single listing for any brand's booster shot that states it.

What the listings do not tell you

Two gaps worth flagging, because a mixing product lives or dies on its specification.

The first is the carrier ratio. For an e-liquid the balance of vegetable glycerine to propylene glycol determines how thick it is, how it wicks and how it behaves in a given coil, and adding 10ml of something with a different ratio changes the blend you are adding it to. We have not found a published ratio for this specific product on any listing we can read, so we are not going to state one. If that matters to your setup, it is worth asking before ordering.

The second is the brand itself. Eco-CBD's own web address now returns a permanent redirect to EndoFlo, a brand we also stock. We are not going to characterise that as a rebrand or a takeover, because we could not confirm what lies behind it and the booster pages do not exist on the new site. What we can say is the practical part: if you want product documentation, certificates or support from the maker, EndoFlo is where that address now points.

This product is CBD isolate, so it is a single purified compound rather than a plant extract, and it is unflavoured by design because the whole point is that it should not change the taste of whatever you add it to.

Who should not buy this

If you do not already have an e-liquid to add it to, this is the wrong purchase. It is a component rather than a finished product, and our ready-made CBD e-liquids are what you want instead.

If you were planning to use a nicotine shot in the same bottle, you cannot do both, for the headroom reason above.

If the VG and PG balance of your liquid matters to you, that figure is not published for this product and adding an unknown ratio to a carefully chosen one is a gamble.
