Each gummy holds thirty milligrams. So the printed instruction works out at thirty to sixty milligrams of CBD a day.

The Food Standards Agency advises healthy adults to take no more than ten milligrams a day from food supplements. The instruction on this tub is between three and six times that.

We are not telling you what to take and nothing on this page is dosage guidance. We are pointing out that two numbers exist, that they disagree by a wide margin, and that only one of them comes from the food safety regulator. Not one of the UK retailers selling this tub puts them side by side.

It is also the second time we have found this on a Hempthy product. The fifty-piece pouches elsewhere in the range are described as a thirty day supply, which works out at around thirty three milligrams a day on the same arithmetic. Two products, two different ways of saying it, and both landing well above the advisory. That is a pattern rather than a slip, and it is worth knowing about the brand generally.

The other half of the instruction is good advice and we would keep it. Cannabinoids are fat-soluble, so taking them alongside food that contains some fat is the standard practical suggestion across this whole category. That part is chemistry rather than a claim about anything.

The odd one out in the range

Hempthy is a tidy brand once you see the pattern. Almost everything comes as thirty pieces at ten milligrams, or fifty pieces at twenty, in a pouch. The bottles break out into thirty pieces at thirty milligrams in a tub.

This product fits none of those. Forty pieces, thirty milligrams each, in a tub, with the fizzy range's acid coating and its four-colour palette.

That makes it the crossover product. It is the only place the sour coating meets the top strength tier, and the only way to have both. If you like the fizzy bears and want more in each one, this is the only thing in the range that does it.

It also produces a combination worth naming plainly. This is simultaneously the strongest sweet Hempthy makes and one of the fastest to eat. A soft, sour-coated bear disappears considerably quicker than a thick cola bottle carrying the identical thirty milligrams, and quicker still than a firm hard gum carrying twenty. Whether that matters is your call, but it is the single most useful thing to know about this tub.

What is in the tub

Forty gummies at thirty milligrams of CBD isolate each, twelve hundred milligrams in total. Isolate at ninety nine point nine per cent, American sourced, made up in the UK, vegan, and stated THC free.

The colours are E102, E129, E133 and E132, the same four the rest of the fizzy range carries. Sulphites are declared, in the glucose syrup. Ninth Hempthy product, ninth time no UK retailer ranking for it mentions them.

Retailers describe the tub as third-party lab tested. No report is published by any of them or by the brand. On an isolate product that is a smaller gap than it would be on a full spectrum one, since there is no THC question to resolve, but we have asked for it anyway.

One small thing that made us smile. Our supplier's ingredient block renders the acidity regulator as an Acity Regulator. It is a typo rather than anything meaningful, and it is a decent illustration of how many hands this copy passes through without anyone reading it.

What they are like

The same soft bear and the same granular sour dusting as the rest of the fizzy range. The acid arrives immediately, fades within a few seconds, and leaves ordinary mixed-fruit sweetness behind it.

At thirty milligrams of isolate there is still nothing of the CBD to taste, because isolate carries no terpenes at all. Whatever you notice is sugar, acid and flavouring.

What is different is the arithmetic of eating them. A ten milligram bear is a sweet. A thirty milligram bear is the same object with three times as much in it, and the eating experience gives you no signal at all that anything has changed. That is the honest problem with strong soft sweets and it is why this tub gets a caution rather than a recommendation.

Anyone who eats sweets absentmindedly. That is not a joke at this strength. If a bowl of gummies in front of a film is how you would use these, the lower tiers exist and are the sensible purchase.

Anyone avoiding tartrazine or allura red. Both are in the fizzy palette. Hempthy's imperial mints declare no colours at all, and the hard gums use plant-derived ones.

Anyone avoiding sulphites, declared across the entire Hempthy range.

And anyone who wants the same strength in a slower format. The cola and cherry cola bottles carry the identical thirty milligrams in a thicker, chewier sweet that takes noticeably longer to finish.
