Hempthy sells its pick and mix in three sizes, and the brand publishes what goes into each. Lined up, they do not behave the way the numbers suggest.

This pouch holds fifty sweets at twenty milligrams and the brand names six formats in it: fizzy gummy bears, sour peach rings, fizzy bottles, bubblegum bottles, cherry cola bottles and American hard gums.

So the larger number on the front buys you twenty per cent more CBD, ten fewer sweets, and half as many formats.

That matters more here than it would on a single-flavour product, because on a variety pouch the piece count is the feature. The whole reason to buy an assortment is to meet the range, and fifty pieces across six shapes does that considerably better than forty across three. Anyone scanning three sizes and reading the biggest as the most product would pick the wrong one for the job.

There is a detail in that list worth pulling out. The American hard gums appear in this mix and in no other pick and mix the brand describes. They are also the only Hempthy sweet whose colours are plant-derived, coming from berries, paprika and turmeric rather than from the synthetic palette the fizzy range uses. The declaration reads: cannabidiol isolate, glucose syrup containing sulphites, sugar, corn starch, water, citric and malic acid, acidity regulator E331, flavourings, and colours E102, E129, E133 and E132.

One thing to be careful of when you are checking these details elsewhere. A UK site ranking for this pouch publishes a completely different ingredient list, giving maize starch, modified potato starch and colours from anthocyanins, paprika extract and curcumin. That is the American hard gums declaration, and the same site published it on its page for the brand's imperial mints too. It is a plausible-looking mistake here because the hard gums really are one component of this mix, but it describes only the plant-derived colours and leaves out the synthetic ones that most of the pouch carries. If avoiding those is your reason for reading an ingredient list, that page would mislead you in exactly the wrong direction.
