One of the UK shops currently ranking for this tub tells its readers that the food safety regulator advises a healthy adult to take up to seventy milligrams of CBD a day.

That was true once. The Food Standards Agency published exactly that figure in February 2020, derived from studies of CBD used as a medicine. On 12 October 2023 the FSA and Food Standards Scotland replaced it. The current precautionary advice for healthy adults is no more than ten milligrams a day from food supplements, following new evidence and a joint position paper from the Advisory Committee on Novel Foods and Processes and the Committee on Toxicity.

That is a reduction of around eighty six per cent, and it is nearly three years old at the time of writing.

This is not a technicality, because of what the stale number is being used to justify. The same page suggests starting with one or two gummies a day. At thirty milligrams each that is thirty to sixty milligrams of CBD daily. Against the withdrawn seventy that reads as cautious. Against the figure the FSA actually publishes today it is three to six times the advice.

We are not telling you what to take and nothing here is dosage guidance. We are saying that if a shop is going to quote the regulator at you, it should quote the version the regulator currently stands behind. A shop still working from 2020 numbers in 2026 has told you something useful about how closely it follows this category.

We have found a related problem on Hempthy's own labelling elsewhere in the range, where a printed serving instruction sits above the same advisory. That is a separate matter, on a different product, and it is set out on the fizzy bears tub listing.

What is actually in the tub, and what the brand will not promise

Hempthy describes the contents as a mix of its fizzy bears, its bottles and its rings. It also states plainly that the sweets may differ from batch to batch.

That second sentence is the honest and important one, and it is the reason to think about whether a sampler suits you. The composition is deliberately not fixed. You are buying an assortment of the range rather than a specified set of quantities.

For most people that is the whole appeal. This is the only way to try three formats without committing to three tubs, and if you do not yet know whether you prefer a sour coating, a chewy bottle or a ring, this answers that question in one purchase.

For anyone with a specific requirement it is the wrong product. If you are avoiding a particular colour, texture or acid coating, a mix that varies by batch cannot give you that assurance. The single-format tubs and pouches can, because their ingredient lists describe exactly one sweet.

The colours declared across the mix are E102, E129, E133 and E132, which is the superset of the range's palette rather than a description of any one tub. Worth one note on sourcing. Two sellers transcribe this ingredient list differently: one publishes all four colours, another lists only three and drops E133. An additive declaration is a legal requirement rather than marketing copy, and it should read the same everywhere. We publish the brand's own version.

The tub, the strength and where this sits in the range

Thirty milligrams a piece is Hempthy's top strength tier. It appears on the bottles, on the fizzy bears tub and here, and nowhere else in the range.

The rest of the brand runs on ten milligrams a piece in its smaller pouches and twenty in its larger ones. If you have only had those, every sweet in this tub carries three times what the entry tier does, and nothing about eating one tells you so.

Isolate at ninety nine point nine per cent, American sourced, made up in the UK. Being an isolate rather than a broad or full spectrum extract, it carries no terpenes, which is why none of these taste of hemp. It is also stated as THC free.

The brand describes the range as vegan and halal friendly. That follows from the recipe being gelatine-free rather than from anything specific to this tub, and it is the first Hempthy product we have written up where the halal wording appears.

Sulphites are declared, in the glucose syrup. Tenth Hempthy product, tenth time no UK shop ranking for it mentions them.

Every seller describes the tub as third-party lab tested. None publishes a report, and neither does the brand. On an isolate that gap is narrower than it would be on a full spectrum product, because there is no THC question left hanging, but we have asked for it.

One last thing, said plainly rather than repeated. The brand's copy describes these as voted the best CBD gummies in the UK three years running. No awarding body is named anywhere and no result is linked. We are not going to restate a claim we cannot check, and the same would go for that wording whoever it came from.

What they are like to eat

Three different experiences out of one tub, which is the point of it. The bears and rings arrive with a burst of citric and malic acid that fades within a few seconds into ordinary fruit sweetness. The bottles have none of that and are noticeably firmer, closer to a traditional pick and mix cola bottle.

Nothing tastes of CBD, because isolate carries no plant compounds to taste. What you notice is sugar, acid and flavouring, in whatever order the tub hands them to you.

The variety does change how a tub gets eaten, and this is worth being straight about. A run of identical sweets gets boring, which is a natural brake. An assortment does not, because the next one is always slightly different. At thirty milligrams a piece that is the single most useful thing to know about this format.

The tub itself reseals properly and keeps the sour coatings from pressing against each other, which a pouch does not manage as well.

Anyone who needs to know exactly what they are eating. The brand states the mix varies between batches, so this cannot give you that. A single-format product can.

Anyone avoiding tartrazine or allura red, both of which are in the declared palette. Hempthy's imperial mints declare no colours at all, and the hard gums use plant-derived ones.

Anyone avoiding sulphites, which are declared across the whole Hempthy range.

And anyone who already knows which format they like. The sampler earns its place while you are deciding. Once you have decided, the single-format tubs and pouches are the better purchase.
