The peach ring you remember is a gelatine sweet

The peach ring is a surprisingly modern piece of confectionery. It reached the United States through Trolli in the 1980s, and although there is a claim that Hans Riegel, the founder of Haribo in Bonn, invented it in the late 1920s, confectionery historians report that claim as unsubstantiated.

What is not in doubt is the composition of the archetype. The classic peach ring is built from corn syrup, gelatin, sugar and citric acid, with the visual signature being two colours in a single ring: a paler yellow inner and a deeper orange or pink outer, imitating the flesh and skin of a cut peach.

Gelatine is the important word there. It is what gives the original its long elastic chew, and it is the reason a peach ring can be pulled and stretched before it gives way.

This one is pectin. That makes it suitable for vegans, which is the point, and it also means it behaves like a fruit jelly rather than a rubbery one. It breaks with a clean snap instead of stretching, and it does not soften on the tongue the way a gelatine sweet does.

If your attachment to peach rings is really an attachment to the chew, this is not going to scratch that itch, and we would rather say so on the product page than have you find out from the bag.

Peach is the most crowded flavour we stock, in three different formats

Something we can do that a brand selling only its own peach cannot: lay all of them out side by side.

We stock peach in three genuinely different formats from three different brands, and they are not interchangeable. A ring, a sour-coated gummy and a hard boiled lollipop are three separate experiences that happen to share a fruit.

The Cannapower ring is the middle option and the most conventional. It is a plain pectin gummy in a bag, the flavour arriving in one go, and the only one of the three that comes in the recognisable peach ring shape.

The Hempthy Fizzy Sour Peaches are the sharp option. A sour coating puts acid on the outside surface of the sweet, which means the sourness arrives first and the fruit follows underneath it. That is a different structure to the flavour rather than simply a stronger version of the same thing. Cannapower does not describe a coating on these rings, and does not publish anything either way, so read that as a naming difference rather than as a specification.

The Multitrance Peach Fuzz lollipops are the slow option. A hard boiled sweet lasts far longer than any gummy and delivers its flavour gradually. What a ring does that a bear does not

The shape is not only decorative, and this range gives an unusually clean way to see why.

Cannapower makes the same sweet in five shapes, so the gelling agent, the sugars, the acids and the colours are held constant and only the geometry changes. That makes the shape the one variable.

A ring is the only one of the five with a hole in it, and a shape with a hole carries considerably more surface area per gram than a solid one. A cube of a given weight presents six flat faces. A ring of the same weight presents a much larger curved surface wrapped around nothing.

Two consequences follow. More surface in contact with your tongue means the flavour registers faster, which is part of why a ring reads as more immediate than a cube of the same recipe. And more surface exposed to air means an open bag will dry at the edges sooner, so a ring is the shape in this range most worth sealing properly between sittings.

It is also the only shape here that depicts a cut fruit. A cherry or a strawberry is a whole thing. A peach ring is a slice, a cross-section, which is why it carries two colours in the classic version rather than one.

The numbers, and one thing we are still correcting

A 125 gram bag with 1200mg of CBD stated across it, alongside a 400mg version in the identical pack. This is the stronger of the two.

The 400mg page argues that the number governing what you take is the one in a single sweet, not the one on the front of the bag.

One correction to note. Our catalogue records this product as a CBD isolate. The manufacturer's published ingredient panel for the range says broad spectrum, which retains a wider set of the plant's compounds with the THC removed. We found the same mismatch on the fruit cubes, so it appears to be a range-wide error on our side rather than a one-off, and we are fixing it.

We would rather publish that than have the specification quietly disagree with the packet.

Who should buy something else

If the chew is what you love about peach rings, buy the memory somewhere else. This is pectin, it breaks rather than stretches, and no amount of good flavour will change that.
