The third chamber is a pollen catcher, and it is the only real reason to choose this over the two-piece version of the same grinder. The G-Rollz Hemp Based 3 Piece Grinder is a 60mm hemp composite grinder built as a toothed lid, a holding chamber with a mesh floor, and a collection cup beneath it. Fine particles fall through the mesh and gather in that cup. Not one of the five UK pages selling this grinder explains what ends up down there, how long it takes to amount to anything, or that the mesh is the part which eventually stops working.
What the pollen catcher actually collects, and how long it takes
When you grind dry plant material, the most brittle parts of it break off as a fine dust. In a two-piece grinder that dust stays mixed in with everything else. In a three-piece it falls through the mesh floor and accumulates in the bottom cup, separated out.
That is the whole function. There is no filtering in any technical sense and nothing is being concentrated by the grinder itself. It is a sieve: fine material goes through, coarse material does not.
On timescale, be realistic. A single grind contributes a barely visible amount to the bottom chamber. Getting a usefully sized quantity is a matter of weeks or months of normal use rather than days, and it depends far more on what you are grinding than on the grinder. Anyone expecting a full cup quickly will be disappointed, and none of the pages selling these sets that expectation.
The practical upside is that it happens without any effort on your part. You grind as normal and the separation is a by-product. If you never open the bottom chamber, nothing is lost: the material would otherwise have been mixed in with the rest.
Three pieces, four pieces, and why the count is confusing
This is the most common point of confusion when comparing grinders and nobody in this market explains it, so here it is.
Our distributor describes this as a three piece construction including a grinding chamber, a mesh screen and a collection compartment. UK retailers describe three chambers: a grinding chamber on top, a middle chamber where the ground material sits, and a pollen catcher at the bottom behind a mesh. Those sound like different products. They are the same object described from two directions.
The stack is: a lid with the teeth in it, a holding chamber whose floor is the mesh, and a cup underneath. Three parts that unscrew from each other. The mesh is built into the middle part rather than counting as a part of its own.
Grinders sold as four piece have the same arrangement with the screen counted separately, or with an extra ring between the chambers. So a three piece with a pollen catcher and a four piece often do exactly the same job, and the number in the name is a counting convention rather than a specification. Compare what the chambers do, not how many the name claims.

The mesh is the part that wears out
Every advantage of a three piece comes with one drawback, and it is not the extra size.
A mesh screen clogs. Fine material packs into the weave, and as it does the screen stops passing anything through and starts holding it instead. At that point the third chamber quietly does nothing and most people do not notice for a while.
Keeping it working means cleaning the mesh, which is fiddlier than cleaning the other two parts. A dry brush is the usual method, worked from the underside so material falls out rather than further in. Never poke at it with anything metal and rigid, because a stretched or torn mesh is not repairable and the grinder is then a two piece with an extra cup.
A two piece has no screen, so it has nothing to clog. That is a real point in its favour and we make it plainly on that product's page rather than pretending the extra chamber is free.
One further note specific to this grinder: the teeth are moulded from hemp composite rather than being steel pins. They handle dry material perfectly well. Anything resinous or tacky will clog both the teeth and the mesh faster than it would on a metal grinder, so this is not the tool for sticky material.
Two different G-Rollz three-part grinders, and this is the 60mm one
Worth pinning down before you order, because the names are almost the same.
G-Rollz sells this hemp composite grinder at 60mm, in mixed colours, sixteen to a trade display. It also sells a Collector three-part grinder at 53mm, in five or six printed designs, eighteen to a display. Different diameter, different construction, different display count, near-identical product name.
Ours is the 60mm hemp composite one. If you have seen a G-Rollz three-part grinder with a printed graphic on the lid at a smaller size, that is the Collector and it is a different product.
The colours in this range, confirmed by a UK retailer rather than guessed at, are baby blue, bright pink, pastel green, sunset orange and ivory. They ship mixed within a display, so the colour is not selected anywhere in the chain and we cannot promise you a particular one.
One thing about our own listing that we should mention rather than leave: its title carries a long dash and a case quantity written in trade language, both generated automatically and neither of which should reach a customer. Who this is not for
Anyone who grinds and immediately uses what they ground. The pollen catcher only pays off if the material sits and accumulates, so if nothing ever collects down there you have bought a third chamber and an extra part to clean for no return. The two piece is the better tool for that pattern of use.
Anyone who will not clean a mesh. A clogged screen turns this into a two piece with a spare cup, and the cleaning is fiddlier than the rest of the grinder.
Anyone grinding anything resinous. Moulded composite teeth and a fine mesh are both the wrong surfaces for tacky material.
Anyone who wants a specific colour or a specific quantity. These ship mixed by colour in a trade display of sixteen, our own shipping unit is unconfirmed, and the figure in our product title describes the display rather than what arrives.
