One sweet, three labels

This is not a guess. It holds up three separate ways.

First, our supplier's product descriptions for the Multitrance, Bubbly Billy Buds and MediCBD versions of each flavour are word for word identical. Not similar. Identical, down to the same spec sentence, the same hundred gram content, the same thirty milligrams a bear and the same ingredient list including the same five colourings.

Second, the manufacturer lists all nine together. Multitrance's own CBD gummies category page shows Passionfruit, Strawberry and Watermelon under each of the three names, side by side, all described as three hundred milligrams a bag at thirty milligrams a bear.

Third, MediCBD and Bubbly Billy Buds are not independent companies buying from Multitrance. Both have their own sections inside Multitrance's own brands directory. They are house labels.

So what actually differs between the three bags? On everything published, the artwork. Nothing in the recipe, the strength, the weight or the declaration changes. If a retailer has told you one of these is a different product from the others, they have not looked.

We stock all three because customers search by name, and someone who wants MediCBD should find MediCBD. We are just not going to pretend they are three different sweets.

Every flavour under this label is out of stock at the time of writing. We are putting that at the top rather than three screens down, because the useful thing to know is that the identical sweet is available under its other names.

Passion Fruit is currently in stock under both Bubbly Billy Buds and MediCBD. Watermelon is in stock under MediCBD. Strawberry is unavailable under all three at the moment.

Nothing about the sweet changes when you switch bags. Same recipe, same thirty milligrams, same ingredient list. The only thing that changes is the picture on the front.

The three flavours

All three sit on the same gelatine base at the same strength. The flavour is the only variable.

What is in the bag

The declaration our supplier publishes runs: sugar, glucose syrup, gelling agent gelatine, modified starch, a garbled entry that reads vors, and colourings given as curcumin, tartrazine, patent blue v, indigotin and black carrot. European retailers publish a different colour set for the same sweet, listing E102, E110 and E133 alongside citric acid and sorbitol.

Two things in there deserve to be pulled out. Gelatine means these are not vegetarian and not vegan, which catches people out in a category where a lot of the competition is pectin set. And tartrazine, which is E102, appears on both versions of the declaration.

That last point carries a specific labelling consequence in UK law, and we have set the whole argument out on the Bubbly Billy Buds version of this sweet rather than repeating it here. It is worth two minutes of your time before you order any of the three labels, since the recipe is the same one.

The word vors is not an ingredient in any language. It is almost certainly a mangling of flavours, and it appears identically across all nine of our supplier's listings, which is its own small piece of evidence for how many times this text has been copied before it reached a UK shelf.

One source, and only one, states how many bears are in the bag: ten. No UK retailer publishes that figure. We are quoting it rather than asserting it, and confirming the exact unit that ships against this line with our supplier.

What they are like

A firm, chewy bear. Gelatine sets harder than pectin, so there is more resistance to these than to a plant-set gummy, and they hold their shape better in a warm room.

At thirty milligrams in a small sweet the CBD is present in the taste. There is a faint bitter, slightly grassy edge that arrives at the end rather than the start. Passion Fruit covers it best because it is the sharpest of the three. Strawberry, being the most straightforwardly sweet, is where it is most noticeable.

The colours are bright, which is what that list of colourings is for. A plant-coloured gummy is a duller looking sweet, and whether that is a fair trade is a personal call rather than a technical one.

How it sits against the other gummies we stock

Two comparisons are worth making. One is against its own twins, which is really a question of which bag is available. The other is against the rest of the gummy shelf, where the differences are real.

The variable that matters most between gummy ranges is strength per piece rather than strength per bag. A three hundred milligram bag of ten large bears and a twelve hundred milligram bag of many small ones can land in very different places.

Legality, and one thing the brand name is not saying

The British consumer test on controlled cannabinoids is one milligram per container. Per container, not per sweet, and never as a percentage. All three labels state zero per cent THC.

There is a real CBD ingredient here rather than a flavouring, so the Novel Foods regime applies to it as an ingestible. We have not verified an authorisation for this line and claim none.

One point about the sibling label, since anyone reading this page will meet it in a moment. MediCBD is a brand name. The prefix is not a medical designation, the product is a food supplement like every other CBD sweet on this site, and nobody should read a health meaning into it. That is not a criticism of the sweet, which is the same one in all three bags. It is a note about how a name can do work that a label cannot.

Anyone eating vegetarian or vegan. Gelatine is the setting agent across all three labels and there is no version of this sweet without it.
