What makes crumble crumble

Crumble and shatter are not different materials. They come out of the same extraction and separate at the very last stage, which is worth understanding because it explains everything else about how they behave.

After a concentrate is extracted, residual solvent has to be driven off. That step is called the purge, and how it is run decides what the finished extract looks like.

For shatter, the extract is purged at a higher temperature and left completely undisturbed. With no agitation it sets as a smooth, translucent sheet that snaps cleanly, which is where the name comes from.

For crumble, the purge is run cooler, for longer, and the extract is deliberately agitated while it happens. That builds a porous, honeycomb-like structure rather than a solid sheet, so instead of snapping it breaks apart into dry, waxy pieces. Same extract, different finish.

Two consequences follow, and only one of them is obvious. The obvious one is handling: crumble comes apart under a tool rather than shattering into fragments that scatter, so portioning it is easier and you lose less to the worktop.

The less obvious one matters more. Terpenes are volatile, and a hotter purge drives some of them off along with the solvent. A cooler purge keeps more of them in the extract. That is the mechanical reason crumble tends to carry more aroma and flavour than shatter, and it is a fact about the process rather than a preference somebody is selling you.

Why this is the full spectrum one and the shatters are not

Here is a connection nobody makes, and it falls straight out of the section above.

Euphoria makes three concentrates in this style. This crumble is full spectrum. Both of its shatters are isolate. That looks arbitrary until you know that shatter is the one purged hotter and harder.

A gentler, cooler finish keeps more of what was in the extract to begin with, which is the definition of a fuller spectrum product. A hotter, more aggressive one strips more away, which pushes an extract towards being purely the single cannabinoid. So the grade and the format are not independent choices sitting next to each other on a shelf. One follows from the other.

That is genuinely useful when you are choosing. If you want the wider profile, the crumble is the format that preserves it. If you want cannabidiol and nothing else, the shatters are built that way and are not simply a texture preference.

What 92 per cent leaves room for

Now the part that deserves a sceptical eye, and it comes from the manufacturer's own published figures rather than from us.

Euphoria describes this as 92 per cent full spectrum CBD with less than 1 per cent minor cannabinoids. Read that carefully. Ninety-two per cent is cannabidiol. Under one per cent is everything else the plant contributed.

Full spectrum, as a term, normally suggests an extract that has deliberately kept the plant's wider range of compounds because that range is the point. At this purity there is very little of that range left. Whatever spectrum is present is a trace.

We are not saying the label is wrong. A trace profile is still a profile, the terpenes and flavonoids are stated separately, and 92 per cent is exactly what a concentrate buyer is looking for. But it does mean the words full spectrum are carrying less weight here than they would on an oil, and if the wider profile is your reason for choosing full spectrum, this is not the product that delivers most of it.

It also changes what the paperwork is for. On most full spectrum products the concern is straightforward: the grade retains THC by design, so a certificate matters. Here the label tells you so little in either direction that the certificate matters more rather than less. Which brings us to the next section.

What we will publish about the THC, and when

The maker publishes a THC percentage on this product, as most concentrate makers do. We are not going to repeat it, and it is worth being clear why rather than leaving it as a gap.

The UK consumer test is not a percentage at all. It is an absolute quantity: no more than 1mg of controlled cannabinoids, meaning THC, THCV and CBN, in the container, whatever that container weighs. A percentage produces a different milligram answer for every size it is applied to, so on its own it cannot establish compliance.

Full spectrum is also, by design, the grade that keeps the wider cannabinoid profile rather than stripping it out. That is precisely why the per-batch paperwork matters more on a full spectrum product than on an isolate, and why we handle these lines differently across the site.

So our position is the same one we take on every full spectrum line: we are obtaining per-batch certificates of analysis from our distributors, and until we hold one for a given batch we will publish no THC figure for it in either direction. If that is material to your purchase, and on a concentrate it reasonably is, ask us before ordering and we will tell you exactly what we hold.

CO2 rather than butane, and where it is made

One detail on this product is unusual enough to be worth pulling out. Crumble is conventionally a butane hydrocarbon product, because the agitated purge that creates the texture is a well-established part of that process. Euphoria states CO2 extraction instead.

The practical difference is what does the extracting. Butane is a hydrocarbon solvent that has to be purged out afterwards, and how thoroughly that is done is the quality question hanging over any hydrocarbon extract. CO2 is used under pressure and returns to gas as pressure drops, so there is no solvent left behind to remove in the same sense.

Euphoria also states that the refining happens in its Swiss laboratories, and that the hemp is organic. Neither claim is something we can independently verify, and we report them as the maker's statements rather than as ours, but a named country of processing is more than most concentrate listings give you.

The two flavours are Sour Diesel and Zkittlez, which describe the terpene profiles added rather than a plant the CBD was taken from. Sour Diesel is the sharper of the two, fuel-edged and pungent, and Zkittlez is the sweet one, closer to fruit sweets. Both currently read out of stock, which is worth knowing before you get attached to one.

Against the other concentrates we stock

Concentrates vary more than the shared word suggests, and the useful comparison is across format, grade and size rather than brand.

This crumble sits in the middle of what we carry: considerably more concentrated than a pressed hash, less than a distillate diamond preparation, and the only one of the group with an agitated finish.

Who should not buy this

If you have no concentrate equipment, this is unusable. It does not go in a vape tank, it is not made to be eaten, and there is no workaround. A cartridge or a pod kit gives you cannabidiol in a format you can use out of the box.

If you are new to CBD, 92 per cent is not where to begin. An oil or a low strength e-liquid will teach you far more about what suits you, and neither requires equipment.

If you are choosing full spectrum specifically because you want the plant's wider profile, read that section again. At under one per cent minor cannabinoids, this is not the product that gives you most of it, and a lower-concentration extract would give you more of what you are after.
