A booster shot that says it is not suitable for consumption

Here is the whole description our supplier publishes, and it is short enough to quote in full. Ninety per cent H4CBD shot. Hemp extract. For aromatherapy. Not suitable for consumption. Volume one millilitre. Ninety per cent H4CBD.

A retailer selling the same product expands it slightly, describing it as suitable for aromatherapy and collection purposes and not suitable for consumption.

Now consider what a booster shot is. It is a small volume of highly concentrated liquid whose entire reason for existing is to be added to a larger bottle of vape liquid. That is the format. It is why it comes in one millilitre, and it is why our own catalogue files this product under e-liquid in the booster shots subcategory.

So the product's function and the product's label are pointing in opposite directions. We have seen the same wording twice already in this range, on the Euphoria oils labelled for aromatherapy and on the hash pieces sold as collection items, and the reason is the same each time: ingestible cannabinoid products need Novel Foods authorisation in Britain, no cannabinoid extract holds one, and a product that is not presented as consumable is not making a food claim at all.

This is the most pointed version of it we have come across. On an oil you can at least imagine somebody sniffing the bottle. A booster shot has no other use.

We are not going to resolve that contradiction for you and we are certainly not going to tell you to ignore the label. We are telling you the label says what it says, and that the shelf it sits on says something else.

The two quantities on the label do not agree

The specification line states a volume of one millilitre with five hundred milligrams of CBD in brackets, and separately states ninety per cent H4CBD.

Three separate problems in one line.

The parenthesis names the wrong cannabinoid. It says CBD. This is an H4CBD product, and H4CBD is not CBD.

The arithmetic does not work. Ninety per cent of a one millilitre shot of distillate is on the order of nine hundred milligrams, not five hundred. Those two figures describe different products.

And nobody reconciles it, including the brand's own trade page, which carries the identical wording. So we cannot tell you how much of what is in this shot, and we are not going to pick whichever figure sounds better.

That matters more on a concentrate than on almost anything else in this catalogue. A ninety per cent distillate is the most concentrated thing on these shelves, and the gap between five hundred and nine hundred milligrams is not a rounding difference.

What H4CBD is, in three sentences

H4CBD is hexahydrocannabidiol. It is made by adding hydrogen to a CBD molecule in a laboratory, so it is a semi-synthetic cannabinoid rather than something harvested, and it is not CBD.

It holds no Novel Foods authorisation in Britain and there is no application we are aware of, so nothing on this page describes it as authorised or approved. Its position under the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 is contested rather than settled, and we have set that argument out properly elsewhere rather than compressing it into a product page.

The THC figure, briefly

A percentage is published for THC and a retailer summarises it as being well below the legal threshold. That reasoning is the wrong shape.

The British consumer test is one milligram of controlled cannabinoids per container. Applied to a one millilitre shot, the published percentage works out at roughly two milligrams, which is above it.

That is arithmetic on their published figure rather than a statement about any batch, no per-batch certificate has been provided, and we make no compliance claim for this shot. Worth separating two things that look alike on a shelf. A booster shot is a concentrate meant to be diluted. An e-liquid is already at its working strength. Buying the first expecting the second is a common and expensive mistake.

The more important distinction on this page is which of them contain CBD and which contain a semi-synthetic cannabinoid instead.

Who should not buy this

Anyone who wanted CBD. This contains none. It contains a laboratory-modified derivative of it, and the label calling five hundred milligrams of it CBD does not change that.

Anyone who needs to know how much they are getting. Two figures are published, they disagree by a factor of nearly two, and neither has been confirmed to us.

Anyone new to concentrates. Ninety per cent is the strongest thing in this catalogue by a wide margin, it is designed to be diluted rather than used as it comes, and its own label says not to consume it at all.

Anyone who wants the regulatory position settled. H4CBD has no Novel Foods authorisation, its standing under the Psychoactive Substances Act is contested, and the product is sold with wording that steps around the food regime rather than satisfying it.
